Our Story
VinZant Wines began in search of a vineyard capable of producing world class wine. Fifteen years we actively searched, tasted, convened with growers and winemakers and wine friends and learned much along the way. Among the many lessons, we became certain that the bedrock of our wine would be in the vineyard. We had two essentials: we farm the vineyard and the land encompass the ability to produce quality and a unique sense of place in our wine.
The northern Sonoma Valley presented an optimal situation to do this. Within the sharp mountainsides east of scenic Highway 12 was a vineyard with terrific pedigree, exposure to prevailing cold ocean influence with strong diurnal temperature shifts, and boundless volcanic stone in the soil. We believed the vineyard would produce high quality and unique wine with a sense of place. As an additional benefit the 63-acre vineyard happened to be breathtakingly beautiful.
For some time I had wanted my longtime friend and respected winemaker Adam Lee to join our journey. Adam has a pedigree of making quality wine, but as important, and if you know Adam you’ll understand this, he is a wonderful person to be around. Adam hiked the hillsides in our vineyard and afterward said “he was in!” It happened that we agreed to purchase the vineyard the morning of Christmas Eve and later that night we received a special gift in the birth of our son George. The timing was too coincidental and so we renamed the estate to George Vineyard.
Since becoming the steward of George Vineyard we have learned much and worked long hours to grow excellent quality grapes. As any grower will convey this is no small task in the best of circumstances, nonetheless at George Vineyard where farming is done by hand along rows ranging upward of thirty-eight degrees slope and with soil so compacted with stone that a hammer drill is necessary to pound out holes to the depth needed for planting. George Vineyard is certified sustainable and we make every decision with a focus on its long-term betterment. VinZant Wines quality, style and sense of place is a direct result of the careful farming techniques we apply in George Vineyard.
The next chapter for VinZant Wines is now in part blank because production is finished and wine is available and it is now yours to write! Our passion is obvious in the wine you taste, but how and where and when VinZant Wines is experienced is up to you. In its most ideal sense our hard work is made as a gift to you for moments that we hope are beautiful, enjoyable, and memorable. If we can help improve those moments then we have done our job! Thank you for giving us the opportunity.
